Choices launches 1st Ever Spanish Speaking Peer Recovery Coach Tarining

It was nothing short of true beauty watching the first Spanish speaking Peer Recovery Coach training launch in Sep. 16th, 2020. I sat there, as the founder of Choices and author of the English version, and watched the language switch from English to Spanish when introductions began. There was an air of comfort that is indescribable. For the first time in history, the Latinx population got to speak their native language in a peer recovery coach training. It was beautiful, and I am humbled to have been a small part of a momentous, and long overdue, event.

Spanish Speaking Peer Coach TrainingHosted by Embark PCA, Colorado, the event drew peer coaches from Florida, Maryland, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, California, and Colorado. Lead trainer Alex Fidalgo was an integral part of the translation coming to fruition. Other supporters were Dr. Sylvia Gines (MA), Marycaremen Blanco (CA), and Pamela Rodriguez (FL), and Daisy Hernandez. The curriculum went through these many eyes to ensure the translation was universal. Without all of their willingness and support, the 1st Choices Spanish speaking Peer Coach training would have not been possible.

The passionate pioneers of the peer recovery coach movement are knocking down walls to break down barriers to improved health and well-being for all.

Next up to translate is Ethics and Recovery Coaches in the ED.

Additional Spanish speeaking peer coach trainings are on the horizon. Stay tuned for details. Marycarmen Blanco will be trained a a trainer and is taking the training to Mexico in November. Viva La Recuperación!

Thank you, all, who made this possible.

With gratitude,
Ginger Ross
