CHOICES Recovery Training Launches Revolutionary New Spanish-Language Peer Recovery Training

CHOICES Recovery Training, a national leader in preparing certified recovery workers, is recognized by the Colorado Department of Corrections for the country’s first Spanish-language peer recovery curriculum.

In the face of a global pandemic, CHOICES partnered with Rod Rushing, director of Colorado’s Embark Peer Coach Academy, to launch the Spanish-language pilot in 2020. CHOICES developed the Spanish-language program with help from Alex Fidalgo, an experienced trainer who facilitated the translation of CHOICES’ existing nationally-recognized 30-hour peer recovery training.

The curriculum has rapidly expanded regionally and nationally as a testament to its scalability and user-friendliness. The original and Spanish-language programs are the go-to solutions for many local, regional, state, and community agencies that need expert trainers and outcomes-focused programming to train and certify recovery support workers.

CHOICES Training has been adopted and endorsed by six state licensing boards and prominent national credentialing organizations, such as the National Association of Drug and Alcohol Counselors, and reviewed by the Latino Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network. In March of 2023, the Colorado Department of Corrections partnered with CHOICES to provide peer coaching certification for incarcerated Hispanic and Latino individuals.

“We’re delighted to serve Spanish-speaking individuals who want to lead their peers in recovery. Our program is the first of its kind, and it has the potential to bring about historical changes in the lives of traditionally underserved and stigmatized individuals. We’re well-prepared to partner with large agencies and go to scale,” says Ginger Ross, the founder of CHOICES Recovery and a nationally recognized award-winning speaker.

Since 2016, Ginger has worked collaboratively with her peers to develop, deliver, and refine her peer coaching curriculum across diverse settings that range from community fire departments to state credentialing agencies. As a result, CHOICES Recovery Training has ignited a revolution in peer recovery training to reverse the crushing health disparities that plague otherwise healthy Hispanic and Latino communities.
